I go geocaching, hiking, and then I made videos. My geo-pup, Bella-Geo (pronounced Bellagio) often accompanies me as I do Park and Finds. (RIP Bella. You left us too soon.)
GCNW: Creating the Ojai Meadow Preserve Adventure Lab
Geocaching Headquarters (GCHQ) just released a process in which a person can request an Adventure Lab credit and receive one if eligible. I received a credit and immediately set out to gather information to create an Adventure at the Ojai Valley Land Conservency's Ojai Valley Meadow. I used these worksheets to ensure that I would gather all of the information I needed in one trip. bit.ly/3IQw7N6
Fortuitously, I met Michael Komptschmidt and interviewed him at the newly installed bridge. He had written the original grant to convert the land back to the meadow and wetland for free public access.
If this sounds fun or interesting to you, come join me.

GCNW: Check on a February 2001 Geocache
Переглядів 7721 день тому
Two geocachers reported DNFs on "Rocky Peak," a February 2001 geocache I adopted a few years ago. My goal today was to check on the geocache and replace it if necessary. If that sounds like fun to you, come join me. @scottinojaivideos @gsmX2 @geocaching
GCNW: Checking on Archived Caches
Переглядів 67Місяць тому
A local geocacher contacted me months ago to let me know that he couldn't maintain his caches and would archive those that had gone missing or had maintenance issues. Reading through logs, I believed two were still in the field. Did I find them? Did I pick them up? Come join me if you have just over three minutes and it sounds like fun to you.
GCNW: Day 1 - Route 66 AL
Переглядів 107Місяць тому
My original plan was to make a daily video and do all of the Historic Route 66 Adventures. However, after working on this video, I realized that creating videos would lessen the experience, so I put my video cameras away. It was a good decision. The day I left GeoWoodstock XX in Flagstaff, I made a second important decision. I would not do the entire route on this trip. These decisions allowed ...

Route 66 GC Adventure - Picking Up the Van
Переглядів 2012 місяці тому
For months, I have been planning a solo trip to do all of the Historic Route 66 Adventure Lab Series from the California border to Chicago. I have completed all of the California Adventures. Today, I picked up the van. I start my 19-day Adventure tomorrow, including some side events and GeoWoodstock XX. This is especially exciting for me because I conceived and curated the project with the help...
Helping a Traveler Meet It's Goal
Переглядів 463 місяці тому
RockGirl9 had a lackey tag with a specific list of goals it wanted to accomplish. "Be placed in a cache a mile from a trailhead was one of them. Since I hike, she gave it to me confident that I could help it meet that goal. Did I do it? If you want to find out, come join me.
Pursuing a FTF on the Pratt Trail - Take 2
Переглядів 474 місяці тому
Three days prior, I waited more than a day to pursue a First to Find on the Pratt Trail, so w01f, the #1 First to Find Hound in the World, beat me to it. mrdsw published a second geocache in the morning, but I had obligations and couldn't pursue it until the afternoon. Would I get it? Will w01f get it first, AGAIN? If you have four minutes to find out, come join me. Music Credit: My Home - Inst...
Pursuing an FTF on the Pratt Trail

A MrDSW cache was published on Tuesday, April 3, at 9:00 a.m. I waited until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday to make the half-mile hike to pursue the First to Find. Would I get it; would I be disappointed? Would the #1 FTF Hound in the World beat me to it? If you have two minutes and twenty-one seconds, you'll find out.
GCNW: The Grotto Earthcache
Переглядів 884 місяці тому
The Grotto has been on my radar for a long time. Today, the stars aligned, and I was able to get it. It's an Earthcache that discusses waterfalls and leads us into a deep canyon. Initially, I thought it would take about three and a half minutes of screen time. A rattlesnake and incredible scenery had another idea. Here is the link to the music: artlist.io/royalty-free-music/song/cerulean/9147
GCNW: Setting Memorial Cache for Jim of chaosmanor
Переглядів 1035 місяців тому
On February 17, 2024, I hosted a memorial event for Jim of chaosmanor, coord.info/GCAJ5BM I had planned on leading a hike to place a puzzle cache where the picture that was used in his obituary was taken. Unfortunately, the trail was closed. It finally opened. FeralKat, mrdsw, and I hiked to set the cache. coord.info/GCAJ11H For helping me, they got FTF on a cache I had set. If that sounds exci...
GCNW: Cache Maintenance in Ventura
Переглядів 495 місяців тому
I began the week with six disabled geocaches. A few days ago, I was able to enable two of them. Today, I headed to Ventura to check on one in the Ventura Harbor Wetlands Reserve to check on another disabled one. Then I went to Arroyo Verde Park, where I had placed a geocache six weeks ago and waited for a geocache to be archived. If that sounds like 3:02 of fun to you, come join me.
GCNW: Cache Maintenance in Ojai
Переглядів 895 місяців тому
When you have an inordinate number of geocaches, you spend a significant amount of time on maintenance; at least I do. I have disabled six of my geocaches; three are in Ojai. Today's plan was to get them back in service. How did I do? If you join me for about three minutes, you'll find out. #geocaching #gsmx2 #ojai

GCNW: 6-Mile Hike to set a Perfect Memorial Geocache
Переглядів 1075 місяців тому
Jim of chaosmanor loved birds, hiking, and puzzle caches, so much so that the picture used in his obituary was at a geocache at the end of the Shoreline Trail at Lake Casitas. Join me as I take a 6-mile hike to get the information I need to set a birdhouse cache at that location. Yes, it's a puzzle cache. #geocaching #gsmX2 #Lakecasitas #hike

Yet another great vlog about a useful project and your geocaching passion. Thank you!
Spoiler pic is so helpful! That'll help after a nice long hike to GZ!
A spoiler pictures is a great idea as it looks like there are a lot of places it could be in those rocks.
Nice views and photography
Thank you for sharing. Always enjoy your vlogs. 😊
Good of you to continue the geocache.
My 20th year anniversary will be in November. I am having more fun with the activity now than any time before. I suspect that I'll be doing it for many more years. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have found archived caches before, collected them and used them for my own cache hides (Recycled Cache Series). :) It's cool you are using the actual hiding spots as well. Makes it easy to create a new hide. :)
He gave me the heads up that he was going to archive caches months ago. Then I got distracted with my backroom role at GeoWoodstock XX and planning to travel Route 66. It's good to be back to normal. I got out of the habit of making and watching videos. More GCNW, less Facebook will be my mantra. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@gsmX2 less Facebook is always good.
I remember you talking about these R66 ALs for the longest time on Caching in the Northwest. Glad you finally made it out there to get them!
Great planning. It can sure take a lot to get everything working well when you are travelling.
If you had a co-pilot, you could have had a videographer
Thanks for sharing the first leg. I fully understand and support your decision to make this an enjoyable and meaningful trip for you.
Very cool that you chose to be present and not film the rest of the adventure. However, sad for us not to be able to experience it through your eyes. Do you think filming slowed you down?
Thanks for the share
I want to see a rocket launch! :O Cool stuff!
I enjoy watching them. The ones around sunset are the best.
I was watching it too I believe it was the coolest one yet
I agree. The photos and videos on Facebook have been spectacular.
Nice!
I have watched many launches from this location. This was the best.
Sounds like an epic road-trip! Can't wait to see how this turns out!
Fun! Have a great trip!
Everyone at GeoWoodstock HQ loves the van! We are excited to see it around town.
ROADTRIP! We're ready to do it all over again!
Wow! What an adventure! Love the van… it’s far out man!
The van looks good. Sounds like an interesting trip. Looking forward to seeing it.
I am looking forward to sharing it by creating a video each day. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Very colourful. We'll be taking notes as we'll be doing that in reverse in October.
Every van is painted different. I missed the opportunity to take shots of about twenty vans they had in the facility. I look forward to seeing your trip. It's amazing how many people from around the world travel the length of Route 66. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Sounds exciting!
I am very excited. People from around the world are traveling Route 66 every day, many trying to follow the original route looking for interesting places. I get to let geocachers guide me to the places and tell me about them. That's exciting for sure.
19 days is fast. Is that one way or a return trip to return the car?
It's one way. I am dropping the van in Chicago on June 8. I think it's a good pace. Many people who travel Route 66 are doing it in two to three weeks. The advantage I have is that I have done all of California. The disadvantage I have it that I have more than almost 900 stops on my route, including over 200 geocaches. Some of those will have to go if I cannot keep up my daily pace. Thanks for watching and commenting.
How long with you be in AZ? Just overnight?
Love taking trackables to their goals. Not so many around here as urban caches are often too small but come across them when travelling further afield.
Congrats on helping complete a trackable's goal!
Wow, I just looked at the map for that park, there are 8 new geocaches there for me too find
Awesome, I was hoping you were FTF!! I love the trails out there cause they look so different than the ones here in the south. Congrats again!
Woohoo, the wolf was napping I guess! FTF! I like the technical part of your video, you do a nice job with the transitions and picture in picture.
The wolf hunts in the early morning. Had I waited until the next day, he likely would have gone for it. Thanks for noticing and commenting on my technical aspects. That takes a lot of time and effort, so I apprecate when people notice it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Congrats in the FTF!
Thank you. My interest has been resparked. This could get dangerous. :) Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@gsmX2 my big goal with FTFs was to try and get a FTF for each month. Finally reached the goal last year. I have 40 some FTFs and I'm glad I finally completed my challenge.
good job on your FTF
Thank you very much. It was a nice walk too. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Serious look on your face. Scott's on a mission!
I noticed that and thought about going back to reshoot it. But you know what, I was on a mission. :) Thanks for watching and commenting.
Beautiful hike. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
We know how that feels as we have had that happen a few times. There are a lot of FTF hunters in our area and they are quick off the mark..
It's part of the game and a bit refreshing. There isn't the thrill of opening the log when you're 100% sure that you'll find a blank log. Thanks for watching and commenting.
So did the FTF not log the find online by the time you got to it? If so that's pretty bad form.
Perhaps but maybe gsmx2 didn't have cell reception to check? Oh he wanted to find I out the old fashioned way.
He might have. I checked on the app before I left home. I went to the webpage after the find and saw his comment, "(FTF) LMAO" That's his comment when he is First to Find in the Ojai Valley. It's resparked my motivation to go after FTFs. I actually long for the days when we couldn't log in the field. In my area, we would not log the FTF for 24 to 48 hours. More people would go after the FTF which, in my opinion, made the game more fun and the FTF more rewarding. That ship has sailed, so there is no turning back, but I miss it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have no problem waiting to logging an FTF until I get home, like I do with the rest of my finds.
It looked like a great walk so it was worth the try. 🦀
Yes it was! I have not complaints. It's actually kind of refreshing to have some competition for First to Find on a hiking trail. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Wo1f is like Big Foot, never seen him so I can't confirm he exists
He exists and is very personable, but others have stories that would contadict that statement in regards to First to Find. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That rattlesnake was pretty unsettling. Good thing there was a commercial break about OPERATION Worldwide Cache Hide, which gave me a chance to calm down. 🦀
The excitement of the snake parlayed easily to the excitement of OPERATION Worldwide Cache Hide. I meant to send you the link to the video and am glad that you found it on your own.
Such a nice trail, thanks for sharing it. Nice big snake too.
Glad you enjoyed it. It was a nice positive snake encounter. Spotted, avoided, and moved on. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm surprised it only had 11 favs on it Def worth you giving it one
I don't get too many views, so thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent video. I have heard of that trail but haven’t been on it. I might put it on the agenda for next week
You should! It's a nice trail and there are many more in the area. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You have such an interesting environment where you live, I really like it. Someday perhaps I'll get to see it in person. Thank you for taking me along on this adventure!
My environment is much different than New York and the surrounding area. I have visited your area several times. Come on out and visit mine any time. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice grotto and snake encounter! :O
It was wasn't it? I think that the snake was perfectly happy slithering away until he sensed that I was moving. I am glad that he didn't get nervous enough to coil and rattle. Thankf for watching and commenting.
Excellent video. Loved to see the rattler and the earthscope. The grotto is interesting as well. Thanks for taking us on the journey!
Thanks for joining me on the journey. The video was longer than usual, but I couldn't decide what to cut out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That EarthScope was interesting I have not seen that before. Loved the shot of the snake and the Grotto. Thanks.
It's the first time I have heard of the EarthScope project. I have a friend who is looking for a place to use his Reward Virtual. I am encouraging him to look at this location. I loved how the snake raised his head to say, "I am watching you." Thanks for watching and commenting.
Beautiful drive, beautiful hike - and a rattlesnake to boot! Thank you. 😊
I know. That and the people are why I continue to geocache after all these years. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Did that rattlesnake see you!?
He saw me, likely before I saw him. I was looking around, contemplating whether I should shoot some video. I was about three and a half steps when I noticed him crossing the trail. It was an excellent encounter. He didn't feel threatened enough to rattle. When I started to walk down the trail, he did notice the movement and lifted his head to get a better sense of what I was doing. I thought that was neat. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice place for a memorial cache
As soon as I saw his obituary, I knew exactly where the picture was taken. It is a perfect location for his memorial. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for sharing. 😌
As always. Thanks for watching and commenting.
